The more breaths I am given
The more clearly I can see
the import of forgetting about the “me”
As the days speed quickly by
The difference between truth and lies
Appears crystal clear before my eyes
As the minutes continue ticking away
One see this contrast between humility and pride
Observing their roots and effects side by side
Why are we filled with vanity and pride?
Consumed with selfishness, apathy and greed
Allowing ourselves to forget those in need
Often the need is deep inside
Unseen, crying out, yet unspoken
And at times, very badly broken
There is a great famine upon the land
Not at this time, of butter and bread
But many souls longing for truth, instead
Longing for freedom, harmony and love
Longing for clarity, transparency and peace
Longing for all wars to cease
Fools we are, if we believe
This can be done without His love
Pouring into our souls from above
The more you sacrifice and give
You see God’s paradox come true
More gifts and wonders come back to you
Our words and deeds may seem small
But, we hope each drop of love and inner peace
Can spread all over and cause hate to cease
God will multiply our small gifts
Combining them into a massive wave
He may use for His children to save
To save from the darkness, chains and greed
To lift us from despair and hate
If we choose, before it’s too late
