Humming softly at the sink-she breaks into full song-
Her hands soapy while “I Need Thee Every Hour” streams up
Into my room.
All must be right with the world in that second,
Or is it just that all is right with her and God?
Something intangible quivers through my soul,
And presses itself into the cells that remember
Even through the millions of minutes that pass since that moment.
Sunshine envelops my room and fills me with hope-
Grapefruit tree limbs hang heavy with juicy fruit
Just outside the window.
Pink blossoms sway in the warm Texas wind
The smell of ripe cantaloupe fields reaches through the doors,
While bacon sizzles with hot abandon.
The black dog barks relentlessly and she knows the source of all this
Delight will let her in and maybe-
Even share the delectable pork while the rest of the world misses
This sensory feast.
A common sight–yet so rare-
To find contentment
Amidst the uncertainty of life–
All began with a hymn floating through the air.
Giving forever to the lucky ones
Who will always remember
Her sweet voice and loving hands
Giving-always giving–
She calls and we run-
To take part in the event that seemed so mundane-
And yet the scores and scores of seconds have never
Removed the glory of that hour
Or its impact and power
Upon the little ones who lived there.
Far beyond the frequencies and pitch -lie the vibrations of the soul,
Unseen by the human eye.
The mother voice reaches to infinity-
Spanning the universe with love.
