Treasures Along the Way

We see a kind person helping someone who’s down
Whether they’re burning, hurting or beginning to drown

When tragedy and disaster comes in a rushing pace
There’s a humble servant showing at exactly the right place

The news is full of stirring up pots of contention and hate
We should be one who pays no attention to their bait

There are amazing heroes running into the flood or fire
Pulling the injured and dying out of the inferno or mire

Caring more for their friend they’ve just met today
Definitely not one thought of receiving any pay

What brings these true heroes to risk their own lives?
What incredible force instills such selfless drive?

“No greater love…than to lay down one’s life for a friend”
These heroes have this love, and in them it has no end

This love is there all around and in our sphere
As we shake off the shackles of our fear

We can become a hero brave and true
Maybe we will all unite and not be few

Instead be an army of hope, love and kindness
Ridding ourselves of all our blindness

Seeing our human family in their true light
As our brothers and sisters, in our bright day or dark night

Let us follow the heroes who’ve shown us the way
Truly inspiring us to a hopeful day
