Treasures Along the Way

Traveled to my hometown, filled with a myriad of emotions
Found my parent’s graves, their names were there
—–But they weren’t there

The town was too crowded now
Too many buildings, too little citrus groves like before
The hard Texas freeze and new ways had destroyed them
It was sad, those orange trees had filled the air with sweet scents
But thankfully, the stately palms were still there
Towering grand, they were etched so deep in my mind
That they’ve visited me in my dreams many times

Went by my old house built by my own father’s hands
It had changed some
The orange and grapefruit trees were gone
The colors of the house were wrong
But the memories floated through the air to form the tears in my eyes

Saw some of my girl friends from long ago, always precious to me
We laughed, we reminisced a little
and created new stories then and there

Went to the beach, only an hour away
Beach of my childhood and youth
It was as beautiful as always
I could almost hear the waves calling my name
Remembering that slim, shapely teen who walked her shores so many times
Where my dreams were laid down and carved deep into my heart

I had a full circle moment, realizing, I created those dreams while scrunching my toes in the sand
And made them a reality-so beautiful

What were those dreams? A forever husband and family-it’s stunning that it all came true–
It’s true-our thoughts and dreams do create our very lives

There’s a beautiful new House there beside my memories, my former days
Close to those shores where those dreams were made
Forever sealed upon my heart, forever to be with them
Forever walking the shores of eternity
Forever sealed in love
