Our Odyssey

The road we chose so long ago
Did we know it would be so steep?
Or could be covered in hail or snow?
And we would fall down and weep?

Did we view the crags and thorns?
Or the thick, gnarly vines?
Or our skin bloody and torn?
The desperate and loneliest of times?

Did we quail at the sheer depth,
Or gasp at the dangerous climb,
As we saw our bodies in the wind, swept,
Covered in the dirt and grime?

Maybe we held to a strong oak tree
Or saw a brave soul ahead
Who somehow had broken free
And almost with wings, had spread

Could we possibly have seen
Or imagined how hard it would be,
Seeing dark forces so mean,
Our spirit yearning to be free?

The road’s long length shocks us now!
The drudgery and hopeless nights
The constant sweat upon our brow
The increasing, dizzying, scary heights

Could we have dug down deep
Into our primordial soul
And with faith made the leap
Hoping to reach our eternal goal?

These answers I do not know-
I only know,
this road is the only way to grow

Only One can truly show us the way
He walked the path and knows every turn
Up ahead is a glorious day
But there’s still so much to learn

We must never give up or give in
We can follow His Light
He knows how to help us win
This long and difficult fight
