Valentine’s Day

Little valentines in a brown paper bag
Our names carefully inscribed on each tiny tag

Exciting party at the end of the day
Cookies, chocolates, mints on a tray

Red construction paper with white, lacy hearts
Saving the final touch of Cupid’s dart

Teacher’s hard work, red decorations cheer
The anticipated hour is finally here

Passing around our precious valentines
Each with its phrase,  “Will you be mine?”

But will our secret crush know it’s real?
We can’t decide to conceal or reveal

Innocence, such a beautiful thing
No complications, none it will bring

Home we all go, treasures in hand
Childhood, the magical wonderland
